Paramedic Practitioners required for South East Coast Ambulance Service

PARAMEDIC PRACTITIONER (PP)

To be based in the following stations or dispatch areas:
East Kent, South Kent, Maidstone, Redhill, Brighton & Hove oda (inc' Mid-Sussex), Haslemere, Rother oda, West Sussex oda, Chertsey oda, North Kent

PP Course commences September 2008 at St Georges University in London and will consist of 8 part time modules (1 - 2 days per week) and relevant GP and Hospital placements over a 15 month (approximate) period.

Salary: Band 6 on Completion of Module four

£23,458 - £31,779 (Pay award pending)

Hours: 37.5 per week


Staff are invited to apply for the opportunity to progress to Paramedic Practitioner via either a diploma or degree pathway in Health and Medical Sciences in association with the Faculty of Health and Social Care Sciences, St George's, University of London. The academic programme is being delivered jointly by the South East Coast Ambulance Service and St Georges University in London. The places being offered in South Kent will be funded in conjunction with Eastern and Coastal Kent PCT. This will involve an education programme delivered over 8 modules using a range of learning methods that include study at the University, clinical placements and distributed education through e-learning.

As students progress through the academic pathway they will convert your theory into practice, working alongside other healthcare professionals. working as a student Paramedic Practitioner you will provide a 999 response on a 24 hour basis within the community utilising existing and newly formed referral pathways to support holistic patient care and there may be the possibility of providing clinical telephone advice within the Emergency Dispatch Centre.

On completion of the programme practitioners will have excellent clinical leadership skills, which they will use to develop others and support new ways of working. This new role will demand flexibility in working hours and in addition to providing a front line 999 response, you will have the opportunity to gain experience of working in other parts of the health service e.g. local Walk in Centres and Minor Injuries Units etc, and may include Emergency Dispatch Centre. Practitioners will develop under the guidance of our partners in Primary Care and, once qualified, will benefit from 15 hours skills assurance training every 6 weeks.

In order to apply you must have successfully completed 2 years of front line ambulance work as a qualified Paramedic. You will also be required to demonstrate clinical competence, excellent communication skills, a forward thinking and positive approach, a commitment to CPD and to study at an academic level.
