Public Information

Welcome to the Website of the British Paramedic Association. All Paramedics in the ambulance service today, whether they are Private sector, Military, Voluntary or NHS have to be resgistered with a government regulator to ensure that when they call themselves a Paramedic the title is used legally and the public receive a recognised and high standard of care. In the future such registration is likely to become the standard for other ambulance professionals such as Emergency Medical Technicians and Ambulance Care Assisitants.

The British Paramedic Association exists to support members during their professional careers. We do this by setting the standards for education and training that education providers should aspire to if they wish to offer Paramedic programmes. It is becoming more frequent now for universities to offer programmes for Paramedic education. When they do the facilities and programme have to be approved through the university accreditation system and also by the Health Professions Council in order to accept the qualification from the university as being up to the required standard for a Paramedic to be registered and gain their licience to practice.

As a member of the public you have a right to expect that when you are attended by a Paramedic that the person caring for you is registered with the Health Professions Council and providing the level of care you deserve. The Health Professions Council make publicly available the facility to check that the paramedic providing your care is registerd to practice as a paramedic.
