Subject: Advanced Paramedic Practitioner

I realise there is much debate as to what level ECPs should be... diploma, degree or masters.

I believe that targetting the role of ECP at diploma level gives services, universities and ECPs alike the opportunity to progress.
At present our scope of practice is very much determined by the political needs of the health service - covering out of hours is for most an important element of our practice.

If we (as a profession, wich to advance into acute/critical care beyond current practices we would need an academic bridge to help us achieve the knowledgebase needed to undertake new skills and drugs.
To pitch ECP education too high in the first instance will make life difficult to flourish.
I currently have one MSc - Cardiology. I am currently undertaking another MSc - Advanced Healthcare Practice. I do not want to get into a situation where myself and other ECPs need to sign up for different MSc' every time we wish to take another small step in provision of health care.

I would like to see my current MSc fall in line with domains of other such advanced courses so we all have a basic undertanding of academic consistancy.

Dare I add... I would also like to see our domains at MSc level, linked in with the emerging Advanced Paramedic Practitioner proposals in the United States.
