I am currently a training officer with the London Ambulance Service, as well as senior lecturer and programme lead for the full-time BSc Hons Paramedic Science programme at the University of Hertfordshire. I have been in the post of senior lecturer for nearly three years and in that time have become involved with revalidations of various universities paramedic programmes through being a reviewer in major health review for the Quality Assurance Agency (QAA). Within this role I have had the opportunity to consult on the BPAs Curriculum Framework for Ambulance Education document as well as the Health Professions Council (HPC) Standards of Education and Proficiency, using these documents as benchmark standards. I have worked for the London Ambulance Service for twenty eight years, within that time I have carried out the full range of operational duties including, one year with the Patient Transport Service (PTS), twenty years on full Accident & Emergency duties (A&E), three years on a Rapid Response Unit (RRU), eighteen months attached to the Helicopter Emergency Medical Service (HEMS) based at the Royal London Hospital (RLH) as the flight paramedic, three years as acting Duty Officer and more recently four years as Training Officer. I am also one of six Tactical Support Officers within the LAS consulting on matters of Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) incidents, and am at present carrying out a piece of work with the Department of Health for England (DH) around this topic area.
